At Berger Family Dental, we value the beauty of your smile and provide the best possible treatment to maintain it.
Preventative Dentistry is the care you and your dental team take to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. It’s primarily accomplished with regular teeth brushing and flossing and with twice-a-year visits to Berger Family Dental for a thorough oral exam and cleaning. By making this your habit, you can prevent bacteria and germs from damaging your teeth, gums, and root.
What are preventative dental treatments?
Dr. Berger and the hygiene team perform preventative treatments in order to provide patients with the best care and avoid dental problems in the future. To start with, a thorough dental exam, cleaning (known as prophylaxis), and X-rays are done to assess the health of the whole mouth. Both Dr. Berger and a hygienist will examine your teeth and gums, and review your X-rays. They may suggest fluoride treatments and/or dental sealants as preventative measures to decrease decay.
Protecting your teeth from injury as a result of sports activity or involuntary grinding and clenching is another way we treat preventatively. Berger Family Dental can make custom athletic mouthguards and bite guards to help keep your smile beautiful.
Steps to preventative dental care:
- Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice per day
- Floss your teeth once a day, preferably before bed
- Visit your dentist twice a year for a proper examination and professional dental cleaning
- Eat a balanced and healthy diet – watch your sugary food consumption
