Bonding

If you are unhappy with the look of one or more of your teeth, dental bonding is a cost-effective, cosmetic procedure that can improve your smile. Dr. Berger can use bonding to fix teeth that are cracked, chipped, and discolored.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental technique that can improve the color, shape, and texture of teeth. Bonding is a composite material that is applied to the surface of a tooth and then shaped appropriately before being hardened and refined. Overall, dental bonding is a relatively simple and cost-effective procedure to help improve the look of your teeth.

What should I know about dental bonding?

The composite resin used for dental bonding isn’t as strong as veneers or crowns, but the material can still last many years before having to be restored. Speak with Dr. Berger about your oral habits to ensure your bonding looks great for as long as possible.

What is the procedure for dental bonding?

This technique does not typically require advanced planning. Anesthesia is not usually needed unless a decayed tooth will be filled. We will use a guide, similar to a swatch of paint colors, to help us choose a composite resin shade which closely matches the color of your teeth. A conditioned liquid is then applied to the surface of the tooth to roughen the surface to allow the resin material to have stronger bond to the tooth. Next, the resin material is added and molded to the shape of the tooth. It is then hardened with the help of light that bonds the material to the surface. To finish, Dr. Berger will shape and polish the material so it matches the rest of the teeth.

What are the advantages of dental bonding?

The advantages of this technique include:

  • Cost-friendly treatment
  • An efficient means to make terrific cosmetic improvements
